What is antler shed hunting?
Adult male deer naturally shed their antlers each year after the breeding season, only to grow a new set of antlers beginning in the spring. Shed hunting season is usually around mid December to mid February but many people in Minnesota prefer to find their sheds in the spring when the weather is warmer and the snow has dropped down.
Antler shed hunting can be enjoyed by anyone that enjoys being in the outdoors! It is truly a family sport and you don’t need to hunt live animals, shoot a gun or buy a license. Shed hunting has been a hobby for many people for many years but shed hunting using a trained dog is just newly emerging. You can train your dog to help you find sheds. Most of us already take our dogs out with us when we walk in the woods but how about giving your dog a task to do while afield.
Dogs that would be good for this hobby are sporting breed dogs and/or any dog that loves to retrieve. It is also great for any hunting dogs during the off-season. No, shed hunting does not interfere with your dog’s ability to find you game during hunting season. For those of you that like deer hunting, shed hunting with your dog gives you extra advantages. You can scout where the deer are and which ones most likely made it through the season. If you are a non-hunter you can still enjoy this new hobby with your family dog.

All classes and seminars are taught without e-collars and force fetch, we teach you and your dog with reward based training methods.
Outdoor Intro to Shed Dog Class
The first class is a lecture via live zoom. All other sessions are outdoors in person.
